Frutillar es una ciudad lacustre situada en la Región de los Lagos, sobre la ribera oeste del lago Llanquihue. Se encuentra a 25 kilómetros de Puerto Varas. Para llegar a Frutillar se debe recorrer la Autopista de los Lagos o ruta 5 hasta el kilómetro 1.000 y luego tomar la circunvalación.

Las primeras casas de la ciudad fueron construidas alrededor de la bahía por los primeros habitantes, todos dedicados a las actividades agrícolas y ganaderas.

Frutillar está situada entre Puerto Montt y Osorno, lo que favoreció el comercio local y la prosperidad de la villa. Luego se asentarían las primeras familias de inmigrantes germanos, que dejaron una profunda huella en las tradiciones y la arquitectura del lugar.

La ciudad posee una costanera poblada de antiguas casas de arquitectura alemana y un club de yates para los amantes de las actividades náuticas. También deleitan las vistas que ofrece el lago Llanquihue rodeado por los volcanes Osorno, Puntiagudo, Tronador y Calbuco.

La gastronomía de Frutillar es un capítulo aparte. Las tradiciones gastronómicas alemanas han encontrado un lugar ideal en la región de los lagos; el viajero puede probarlas en las diferentes casas de té.

El Museo Colonial Alemán es otro de los atractivos de la ciudad. Este parque-museo de antiguos árboles, jardines y lagunas es el vivo homenaje a las primeras familias alemanas que se asentaron en la zona a mediados del siglo XIX. La mayor parte de los objetos del museo fueron donados por familias locales.

El Parque Nativo Forestal es una de las excursiones imperdibles. Creado con el fin de preservar las especies de arbustos y árboles del bosque nativo, el parque, también llamado Bosque del recuerdo, se mantiene gracias al aporte de la Universidad de Chile a través de la Facultad de Ciencias Agrarias y Forestales.

Una vez al año, Frutillar se viste de gala para festejar sus Semanas Musicales, principal evento turístico de la ciudad.

Frutillar is a lake town located in the Lakes Region, on the west bank of Lake Llanquihue. It is located 25 kilometers from Puerto Varas, 19 from the town of Llanquihue and 1,000 from the city of Santiago. To get to Frutillar you have to cross the Motorway of the Lakes or route 5 until kilometer 1.000 and then take the ring road.
