Frutillar

Frutillar is a lake town located in the Lakes Region, on the west bank of Lake Llanquihue. It is located 25 kilometers from Puerto Varas, 19 from the town of Llanquihue and 1,000 from the city of Santiago. To get to Frutillar you have to cross the Motorway of the Lakes or route 5 until kilometer 1.000 and then take the ring road.

The first houses of the city were constructed around the bay by the first inhabitants, all dedicated to the agricultural and cattle activities.

Frutillar is located between Puerto Montt and Osorno, which favored the local commerce and the prosperity of the town. Then settled the first families of German immigrants, which left a deep imprint on the traditions and architecture of the place.

The city has a coastline populated by old houses of German architecture and a yacht club for lovers of nautical activities. They also delight the views offered by Lake Llanquihue surrounded by the volcanoes Osorno, Puntiagudo, Tronador and Calbuco.

The German Colonial Museum is another attraction of the city. This park-museum of ancient trees, gardens and lagoons is the living tribute to the first German families who settled in the area in the mid-nineteenth century. Most of the objects in the museum were donated by local families.

The Native Forest Park is one of the must-see excursions. Created in order to preserve the species of shrubs and trees of the native forest, the park, also called Bosque del recuerdo, is maintained thanks to the contribution of the University of Chile through the Faculty of Agrarian and Forest Sciences.

Once a year, Frutillar dresses up to celebrate his Music Weeks, the main tourist event in the city.
